The Brief
The client wanted to replace an ageing timber deck and completely reimagine the garden as a sophisticated outdoor living space. The goal was to create a modern, design-led garden that felt stylish, functional and inviting, with distinct areas for entertaining and relaxation.
A key part of the brief was to introduce structure and privacy while making the garden feel larger and more immersive as visitors moved through the space. The client also wanted a planting scheme that would be easy to maintain while providing year-round interest, helping to soften the hard landscaping and create a greater sense of seclusion from neighbouring properties.
The aim was to achieve a garden that felt like a private urban retreat, combining contemporary materials with carefully considered planting to deliver beauty, privacy and enjoyment throughout the seasons.
Design Approach
The garden was completely redesigned around a palette of high-end materials and strong architectural features. Large-format Bone Ivory porcelain paving forms the foundation of the space, complemented by black shingle borders and recessed drainage channels that create striking contrast and clean visual lines.
A bespoke pergola archway was introduced at the centre of the garden, dividing the space into two distinct zones and creating a sense of journey through the landscape. Beyond the pergola, a secluded seating area is framed by generous planting beds, creating a private garden retreat. A contemporary Venetian-style slatted fence provides an elegant backdrop, adding both privacy and texture while enhancing the overall sense of enclosure.
The result is a refined outdoor space that feels both contemporary and timeless, with carefully considered details that elevate the garden from a simple entertaining area into a true extension of the home.
