The Brief
The client wanted to transform an overgrown and neglected garden into a welcoming outdoor space that could be enjoyed with minimal upkeep. Having become difficult to navigate and maintain, the garden no longer met their needs and required a complete redesign.
A key part of the brief was to create a garden that felt natural, relaxed and timeless, avoiding overly modern materials or complex layouts. As an older couple, the clients wanted straightforward access throughout the garden, practical outdoor living space and clearly defined planting areas that would be easy to maintain and enjoy throughout the year.
The aim was to create a comfortable and functional garden that would feel established, inviting and in keeping with the character of the property.
Design Approach
The garden was completely cleared and restructured to create a simple, functional layout centred around ease of use and long-term enjoyment. A fresh lawn was installed to open up the space, while an Indian sandstone patio and connecting pathway provide durable and accessible routes throughout the garden.
A new timber sleeper planting bed was introduced to create definition and provide a dedicated area for seasonal planting, while remaining easy to maintain. To improve practicality, a new garden shed was installed, offering valuable storage without detracting from the overall appearance of the garden.
The result is a calm and welcoming outdoor space that combines natural materials, improved accessibility and low-maintenance landscaping, creating a garden that can be comfortably enjoyed for years to come.
